Transverse Bed: What it means and why it matters
A transverse bed runs across the width of the caravan rather than along its length. This space-efficient layout allows a fixed bed in shorter, more towable caravans.
Transverse beds are positioned sideways. Your head and feet point towards the caravan walls rather than front-to-back. This saves floor length, allowing manufacturers to fit a fixed bed into a caravan 1-2 feet shorter than an island bed equivalent. The trade-off is that one side of the bed is against the wall, so one sleeper typically needs to climb over the other. Bed width is limited by the caravan's internal width (usually 180-200cm). Transverse beds are ideal for couples who prioritise towability and want to keep overall caravan length down.
Why this matters
The best fixed bed option for shorter, lighter caravans. If you want a fixed bed but need to keep weight and length down, a transverse bed is the answer.
